The problem is Maurice, we simply will never know the degree in which American military presence has deterred other nations from agression. The reconstituted UN is a pipe dream. Philosophically it makes sense, however, there are just too many nations unable to grasp the real responsibilities of world peace. The events in Iraq and the turn a blind eye attitude toward NK are a sad testament to that. I wonder what the bean counters (who predicted 500 thousand civilian deaths in Iraq), are doing at the U.N. today?
