I'm withya on that! I want the space program expanded but not stagnate like it is now. The space shuttle costs too much money for what little it does. And the space station seems to be a huge waste. Maybe I just don't see the big picture with this space station but it seems to me that it is to limited to do much of anything for deep space missions. I think the focus at this time should be R&D for lunar landings and structure building. Then we can turn that into a mission to Mars. Personally I think it will be 40-50 years from now but I would love to see it happen in 20.
