Kumar, it's a democracy. Full control with the people. They could have done a China before China. Look at Singapore - they voted for development and got it in a huge way, going from a sweltering tropical slum to a pre-eminent country.

New Zealanders used to go to Singapore for bargains. Now, they are buying us up. NZ has been voting itself poor for decades. Worse, we are voting for social mayhem, murder and theft. We have gone from number 1 or 2 or 3 in wealth to down the gurgler somewhere near Portugal or Chad. Okay, Chad might be an exaggeration, but it's downhill.

India could have voted for no capital controls, open borders, deregulated markets, convertible currency and all that stuff. They had a great head-start on China, with all the right institutions ready to roll, English as the lingua franca opening the window on the world and a civilized population.

India has stuck with the old-style stuff. There's been a bit of deregulation over the past decade, but minimal really.

Look at the struggle they have to turn CDMA2000 loose. Red tape everywhere.

EDIT... hey, you're editing!! <Today, if I chose to work in India, in a city like Bombay, I would make about 500K Rupees per month and have a company paid apartment with a chauffer driven car.>

Wow!!! Looks as though India will soon be ahead of New Zealand. US$10,000 per month = wayyyyy more than New Zealand pay rates. No wonder you left here. See what I mean about people voting themselves poor.

But, how many people in India enjoy such a pay rate? Not many yet. Quarter of a million NZ$ per year!!! My jaw is open!!!! Kiwis will be bottom of the heap soon. Already, my son, who is involved in software outsourcing, says NZ is competitive.
