I have wondered, without coming up with an answer, which country has most happiness per capita, or maybe it's quiet contentment I mean. I can't even get my definitions right, so the answer isn't going to be right either. India [Bangalore, Bombay, Cochin, Mysore and points between anyway] seemed to me to show that wealth and psychological well-being are not all that closely related. The USA has wealth coming out its ears, but counsellors, psychologists, psychiatrists, life coaches, divorce, murder, prison and legal life are booming industries [there's cash flow to the providers, but people keep going back for more]. Prozac is not a novel medication to most American readers - they probably even know somebody who uses it. Same here. New Zealand has about the highest consumption in the world. The popularity of black here is either the cause or the result of psychic depression. Or we are Nazis in training [seriously, sometimes I wonder, with continuing National Socialist ideology running the place]. There have even been attempts to get a NZ version of the Jolly Roger [skull and crossbones] as the national flag to replace the colourful Union Jack, blue and Southern Cross. They want a black flag with a silver fern on it! A permanent depression every time the flag's raised. mch.govt.nz [the blue isn't as dark as it seems there]fotw.ca !.html I think the USA has achieved a higher murder rate than even New Zealand [we have made great gains over the decades]. Ghandi, asked about British civilisation, thought it would be an excellent idea. Churchill thought him a little faker! [fakir]. Kiwis have a worry frown. Indians have a daub of goop where their worry frown should be. Americans use botox and Prozac! I wonder what the GDP per capita is for happiness, contentment, ommmmmness? Maybe somebody should come up with such an psychonomic output measure as well as economic output measures. It would be interesting to see national averages, standard deviations and totals. Mqurice
