In a short while the clerics won't give any credit to the US at all and claim that Allah ridded them of Saddam. Americans please leave now, etc. This is why the new Iraqi government needs to be separated from Islam as far as possible. Otherwise Iraq will end up like Iran w/the Allatolah and Afghanistan post ridding them of the Russians, a situation where the US got no credit either. Bush is smart to set up 4 bases. It will take years to get the Iraqis used to elections and democracy. Sure, the Muslim world will not like it at first but tough.
