1. They assassinated the Sheikh who was paraded in as our envoy to Islam

Many of the reports indicate that the other Mullah who was killed was strongly anti-American. It is more likely that this was strictly an internal power play between factions of religious "leaders."

2. They have attempted to assassinate our leading candidate to run the country (Chalabi)

Defense department likes him but other parts of US government do not like him so you are wrong there also.

3. Public demonstrations against the occupying American/British armies

Just as many if not more demonstrations of support. Real demonstrations are with their feet as they did not defend the country against the supposed invaders and treated us more like liberators. Now they are volunteering to assist as police, fire, etc. It will take time but things will work out. You have to admit that things are better than under the tyrannical killing, murder, and maiming under Saddam?

4. Countless statements by individual Iraqis that the U.S. should turn the ountry over to the Iraqi people

Eventually that will happen. We are not going to cut and run. My guess is that it will take a year.
