Shepard,
re:"the USA lost about 300,000 men in the war......the USSR lost about 20-22,000,000 people.

To give us some perspective, what is the point of your post?

Steve

You are right. USSR had much more in casualties.

The main reason was that Stalin was a butcher of his own people. He did not care how many died. That is the "success" of Communism. And more evidence of Communism's bankruptcy.

One of the worst mistakes Stalin made was made before the war started with Germany. Hitler caused Stalin to believe that some members of the USSR officer corp was going to try to overthrow Stalin. Then Stalin killed the top 1,000 officers. He was particularly ruthless in destroying the best and the brightest outside the military, by the millions.

When the war started his military and much of the civilian industry was a shambles.

Stalin did not care about how many of his people died. The American officer corp was better than that.

That is why the so many Soviets died. It was not their devotion to fighting Hitler's evil. Stalin was just as evil as Hitler. In fact, Stalin was responsible for the direct murder of a comparable number of people or maybe more than Hitler. Stalin just took longer and kept it quieter (eg. starving millions of Ukranians or millions in Siberia camps).
