How much if this SARS activity is really needed ?

"Schools closed on voluntary basis even if no one had fallen ill."

If other schools in the area or a nubmer of people in the city are ill, this makes sense as a preventatinve measure.
If only a dozen people in the city are ill, this seems to be something else -

1) Going overboard after denial. Big motivation for after firings in Beijing. No one wants to be doing less than maximum now.
2) Some degree of panic wtih the unknown
3) The "let's do this because it's much more exciting than our ususall jobs" factor. Everybody needs a break from routine.
4) Actuall fear and panic over SARS (as opposed t obeing fired) - which I think is a minor factor.
