Ed - I didn't change anything and you have just shown that. I do not believe that this war was fought for Israel. I do not believe that Israel was the primary beneficiary. If you read my entire posting, you will see that I said that any benefit Israel receives by elimination of a tyrant would be less than those more directly threatened like Kuwait, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and, of course, the Iraqi people.

The world is a better place, including Israel. That's not inconsistent posting.

AS for oil and financial reasons that may benefit Israel, I have posted many times that any economic benefit to Israel assumes that commerce is a one-way street. Israel will not get oil for free and, to date, Arab nations that have made peace with Israel were doing better financially from the arrangement than was Israel.

If Sharon says that Iraq is his biggest threat and is jumping for joy, that's his opinion. I have more faith in our government and its intelligence resources than to think they rely on a call from Sharon to move into Iraq "or else." Quite frankly, Israel could have and might have kicked Hussein out on its own years ago but for pressure from the US NOT to do that. US jumped on the bandwagon and condemned Israel's hit on the Iraqi nuclear capability. Of couse, the whole world now rejoices that Israel did that brave act.

Before the nuts come over, as you can see, I don't particular like the Likud approach but understand that unless the terror is eliminated, Israelis will vote with their fears. Labor controlled Israel and was relatively moderate until things started getting worse thanks to Arafat and his associates.
