We did not make them do anything in response to Iraq.

I think Bush very much manipulated the UN so that he could invade Iraq the way he wanted to.

He could have invaded it without having gone to the UN. He was going to invade and if the UN would support it, it would be icing on the cake, but Bush was going to eat the cake with or without icing.

While I think this stinks, its not the same as what happened in Iraq.

Not the same but its one of a long line of interventions -

An older, much more brutal one happened in Algeria.

Even after France gave up on having colonies in Africa and elsewhere it basically set up puppet governments for awhile, and still tries to keep certain ex colonies relatively dependent on France. It frequently meddles in Africa.
