NYT today had an extensive piece describing the extensive, and in some cases unlikely, economic effects of SARS in Asia and Australia (affecting Aussie fishermen who supply the HK restaurants and hotels).

I had dinner with friends last night, one of whom is a very frequent traveler to China (Shenzhen and Shanhai mostly) by way of HK. He stayed at the Marriott, Hong Kong (one of the three or four best in HK) 12 days ago--he told me that he confirmed that there all of three guests registered in the hotel that night. Edward is not given to exaggeration (as an Irish/Brit, understatement, maybe).
