this is a fascinating article.

Yes, it is. No way to source it, and it could have been made up from the things that happened, like attributing the tank firing on the Arab media to a pre-planned event. We will never know about the truth of this type of thing for years, if ever.

What I did when I read it shows how my Internet reading has changed over the last couple of years. The first thing I did was look at who posted it. That convinced me to read it. Then I looked at the URL. "Newsmax" is obviously a Conservative source that leans to the religious right, so I keep that in mind when reading it---If they had listed ANSWER among their links, for instance, I would have read it differently.

I much more cautious about checking sources. When I read the exciting piece posted by unclewest on an action in Baghdad by Special Forces, the fact that he had no source and that it was just too good to be true should have alerted me to run a google on it. Turned out to be an "Urban Legend." I hope not to make that mistake again.

The Times did a story Sunday about our planning to have bases in Iraq. It was denied by Rumsfeld today. We know damn well we will have troops there for years. We won't call it "bases," that's all.
