My impression is that Kerry is a liberal attempting to morph into a "moderate." Correct me if I am wrong, you know him better. His ADA and ACU ratings have him one step removed from Ted Kennedy. By next January, I think that the Democrats will be trying to draft Al Gore.

You are right about Cheney, though it is hard to imagine that Bush would ask him to step down. Loyalty, for better or for worse, is a Bush family trait. It would be nice to have an heir apparent on the ticket. I think that the intent was to groom Frist but it appears that he might not be ready for prime time. I would love to see Colin Powell on the ticket, but he would probably face some significant opposition from the more conservative members of the GOP. Put Powell on the national ticket and the Democrats can call it a day.

Without an anointed heir 2008 could be wide open. Make a mental note to congratulate me in 2006 on this prediction: Ashcroft will resign as Attorney General to pursue the Presidential nomination.
