Whether it was "our" breakthrough w/ NK or w/ China may overstate the case. Japan is PRC's #1 trade partner and (arguably) tied with us as a #1 target. Other significant trading partners had a role, too. ASEAN had commissioned a 3-party delegation in March (now cancelled) to chat w/ NK and China. Surely SK, another significant trading partner, was discussing the situation w/ PRC. Perhaps even Taiwan. Any "breakthrough" was a combined effort, even if not jointly planned or communicated.
