Travel is an important industry. International trade is also very important to the global economy. When Americans have to worry about being the target of terrorism (and now SARS as well), there will be far fewer people willing to take the risk of international travel and to do international business. Fortunately, there have been very few terrorist attacks on Americans abroad so far -- only time will tell how bad this will get. I cannot recall a worse environment for travel.
