I think the sad thing is the french govt's greed.

Greed for it's oil contracts.
Greed for all the money the french oil co's give the pol parties in france, incl chirac's.
greed for the revenue from weapons sales, nto atter to whom.
greed for the commerce some of it prohibited, that france enjoyed from the Iraqi food-for-oil program.
greed for another colony in the Ivory Coast.
