<We are living a political world> for sure. In terms of the U.S. even, i believe SARS must first be added to the diseases that gives the U.S. and local governments unlimited power to quarantine. Diseases on the list that i recall are Diptheria, Typhoid, Cholera, Bubonic plague and a couple others. In NYC Ellis island and two other islands(Russell Island?) there were used for mandatory Quarantine; no, if and/or buts, you got the diagnosis you were put in isolation on an island. I was born in 1941, so i have memories of seeing big yellow Quarantine signs on a person's house, which meant no one allowed in or out of the house. This was for Scarlet Fever, which was soon to die out due to the age of anti-biotics emerging. Max
