On the other hand, today we can put you on a respirator and sometimes you even successfully come off a respirator. So there would be some offsetting gains to go with your more vulnerable population.

The SARS mortality might actually be quite different from 7%. Earlier today I posted the figures of deaths:recoveries - this was much higher - more like 20%. That figure will likely change, and of course it is only for people sick enough to be diagnosed to begin with - we just have no idea whether there are a bunch of not-very-sick SARS patients out there who think they just have a cold.

(In other words the 5-7% mortality rate currently being publicized assumes that everyone currently still sick will recover).

[Edit: - I see you posted on this issue earlier. It's not really an upper limit though - what happens if everyone still sick were to die?]
