Well there is about to be an inhaled 'flu vaccine (from MEDI). It's a live virus vaccine, where the virus has been seriously weakened (cold attenuated). So there's a vaccine that acts just like a virus. MEDI (earlier Aviron) had to jump through some very high hoops before the FDA was satisfied as to safety.

In fact, eating something tends to produce tolerance (opposite of immunity) to the antigen you ate. There was even a biotech (Autoimmune) that crashed and burned (when the placebo group outdid itself) trying to use this phenomenon to treat multiple sclerosis.
