Off the top of my head....we are still waiting for the collapse of Castro, Quaddafi, Assad, Kim Jong-il.

Precisely.... moreover, Europe which has been held up as an example recently was lead to it's present state by forcible defeat of the axis countries, a recent event in the overall course of history.

I'll repeat - even in our civilized Western societies, we still have police forces to keep order - it's like having that plunger beside your toilet, you would rather not have to use it but.... And on a global scale it's not soon that criminal behavior will be reduced enough that the intra-EU model of civilized resolution of disputes will be workable worldwide.

Some of this debate reminds me of the saying "If all men were angels".

In this whole sordid Iraq affair, I think there's barely anyone aside from the Pope who has any high moral ground. The noisiest anti-war activist countries have revealed themselves to have nothing but their own financial self interests behind their agenda, the Bush administration has an eye on post war profits, the mythical Arab street once again demonstrates their abject stupidity in "supporting" Saddam Hussein, the hell with the plight of the average Iraqi citizen, it's been really sickening to watch.

And somehow, the world is ready for peaceful resolution of conflicts in the face of all this ?

I just don't think so.

There is not a single person on that list who is not there because of outside support. And if you look at your list closely, you will see that how brutal of a dictator those people are is directly proportional to how much help they have needed from outside...there is nothing long run about it. They will not last even one generation without outside support.
