Many supporters of the current regime I've talked to believe it to be dirty, and have various rationalizations, the enemy is dirtier, they all do it, etc etc. Many people are simply paid by the gov't/industrial complex, in the military, have contracts etc. and are willing to accept dirty politics. Up to a point, I suspect. Palast is great, I tried to get him to speak in town on his last tour but needed longer lead time. "Alex Jones is a fringe type" That's for sure ! Especially compared to the mainstream. Reminds me of Tom Paine, if you've read some of his broadsides. He rightly calls the battle unfolding as "Infowars" He nails the false dichotomy of "liberal/conservative" and "right/left" by showing Bush and supporters are simply creating huge tyrannical gov't/business combines for personal profit, the opposite of conservativism. What fascinates me about Jones is his prediction 3 years ago that OBL was an asset of dirty US policies and would be used to attack the US, kicking off a war with Iraq and other countries and martial law. I was a babe in the woods running my tech biz and had no idea gov't tyranny was preparing to evolve to that extent. I don't agree with his entire POV but he's very clear about what constitutes freedom, and how the script plays out when big politics and big business collude worldwide. I wouldn't have listened previously -- Jones was another rabid critic of Clinton, but not for the Monica-type reasons, and a big supporter of NRA and even Ashcroft. Then he starts seeing what's actually being done rather than what's said, starts reading the laws proposed and passed, dirty deeds and disinformation, and combats that daily in detail. I didn't know for example that the President is only the commander-in-chief when there's a declared war. Jones rightly describes the incremental push towards a command-and-control society in place of the Constitution. He describes himself a constitutionalist. He's rabid, in voice and opposition to gov't policies, which is off-putting at first, but the content is carefully researched in spite of being sensational. That said, I haven't yet seen his films I've ordered, which are comprised of actual news clips of various gov't officials. More later.
