Gustave,. So, a handful of French people settled in Algeria 130 years prior to the French-Algerian War? I bet most of them stayed there after the war. And, because of their small numbers I bet there were few if any reprisals against them from the Algerians. In any event it certainly doesn't compare to the 5000 year history of the Jews in Israel who live there in numbers far larger than the French Algerians you mention. Your remarkable insight about Americans not being indigenous to America is completely true. America is a nation of immigrants. Always has been. Always will be. It is a country that is built on diversity. If you're suggesting that native Americans (Indians) were unfairly treated by the immigrants that arrived there you are correct. I never said our our history was without blemishes. We have lots of those. But, we learn from our mistakes. Though we still are not perfect you will be hard put to find a more tolerant people in the world. "How could a ragtag, semi-clandestine army of Palestinian guerillas equipped with AK-47s and antiquated rocket-launchers rout a nuclear garrison-state supplied by the #1 military superpower, namely, the USA?" A valid question, but it doesn't seem to have stopped a large number of Palestinians to continue to advocate the destruction of Israel. If it's impossible why do they continue? Why do you not condemn them? The obvious solution is a negotiated peace, but I've noticed that most of the criticism of Israel on this board does not revolve around what constitutes a fair negotiated settlement with Israel. It revolves around their hatred of Israel. "Any Palestinian victory over Israel will be political and ideological and such a victory doesn't entail the expulsion of Jewish Israelis from the Israeli state." What exactly does "win politically" mean. Does that mean that Palestinians take over Israel by some peaceful means. Sounds great. Please explain. An "ideological victory" is even more obtuse. To me, an ideological victory means that I have finally established for most concerned people that my cause is just. I suspect it means something very different to you. Please elaborate.
