So you are saying that since Bush remained calm under pressure instead of tearing his hair out in front of tiny children means that he either didn't care or wasn't surprised.

OK

Hi Rock_nj -- was it really an hour ?

I remember after the 1st plane hit, people were saying it was a private aircraft for 10 or 15 minutes.

I'd say the Pentagon was hit about 30 minutes after the 2nd plane hit the WTC.

So flight controllers up and down the East Coast had to make contact with all aircraft to determine if any others were possibly hi-jacked.

How long do you think that takes ? 10 minutes ? 15 minutes ?

That gives you about 10 minutes to scramble some jets and then only about 5 minutes to intercept.

And who is authorized to give the order to shoot an aircraft out of the sky ? How long does it take to make that decision especially when its over a populated area.

If you consider the situation and the timeline -- there really wasn't that much time to sort through all the things that needed to be assessed -- let alone connect our Air Traffic Management authorities with our Civil Defense authorities who in turn would have to get hold of who in the Pentagon ?

I was in DC at the time, trust me -- it all happened REALLY FAST !
