Now I'm ready for volume II and the Italian campaign.

Patton really made his bones in Sicily. And got his first reprimand. Mark Clark was a real racist. One of the worst among the Generals, from what I hear. I am still getting off the Algerian beach.

Hi JohnM,

To complete your historical review of the war in the desert (WW2) may I suggest the works of an early "embedded historian" Spike Milligan. Spike Milligan was actually an artillery gunner, and later became a famous UK comedian. He was in the Tunisian campaign, and later in the Italian campaign, where is was wounded (suffered shell shock) near Cassino.

The books are not a serious review of the war of course.. but I found them worth reading :-)

Finished the WWII North African campaign last night,

Oh, I forgot to mention. That book shows you that the French were just as bad to deal with 60 years ago as they are today.
