I agree with you about the corporate governance but not about the rest.

I am generally cynical about governments but see some positive developments in government planning by the shocking events of 9/11.

As for the stock and bond markets, I had hoped that the collapse of the market (dot.com & tel bubble) would lead to the same type of shock and really reform the markets and make them fair for Joe Investor.

There are a few sands being blown but not enough yet.

The pension funds and institutions have to stop covering up their own incompetence and realize that their constituents are actually looking at monthly statements. Take a look at today's news about TIA CREF challenging pay of some of the Bells I believe.

It's a start. Government will be the last to join, but, if we can make it a popular issue, then both parties will jump on it.

SO many people have been soured by the market that only us real hard core people and shorters are left here. Politicians have to start realizing that and they will supply some backbone only when their constituents let them know it.
