WHO braces for possible major SARS outbreak in China
One of the scientists who discovered the AIDS virus has warned of a "looming catastrophe" if the SARS virus spreads among the large population of people in China who are HIV positive. His comments come as the World Health Organisation braces for a major new outbreak of sars in mainland China. Meanwhile in Hong Kong, the SARS death toll continues to rise. But 200,000 secondary school students were finally allowed to return to class today after a three-week enforced holiday.

Yes, that live animal market sounds like a good place to start looking.

This is ironic if the animal market is indeed to blame:

For it is widely believed in the Cantonese area, particularly among the elderly, that eating furry animals warms a person up in the winter and wards off disease, particularly pneumonia.

Note that the virus sequence is apparently a mixture of three different animal strains. (If anyone sees an update on this issue please post it).
