Well, let's see....we had a stock market crash which began in earnest before Bush even took office, then 9/11 and two wars.....no wonder.....

What about the recession in the early 70's that lasted 16 months? Or the early 80's that also lasted around 16 months? First you may need to more clearly define what actually counts as a recession.
