That doesn't surprise me. People tend to become more conservative as they grow older. So, it doesn't surprise me that some Ds turn to Rs over time. I think part of what we've seen over the past decade is people who were always conservative Southern Democrats have remained conservative, but have changed their party affilation to Republican as the Republican party grew in popularity in the South.
