Re: the woman was on CNN saying that, even though the US was not attacked by SARS, CDC would use the SARS scare as an exercise on how to react to biological attack.

This may have initially been poorly communicated, or it may have been used by Dr. Julie Gerberding or handlers behind her to create a new fear among the public. But, no matter the way they handled the public relations end of it, I think the actual public health response here in the U.S. has been reasonable and apparently effective.

Poor Toronto.... I saw the news on CNN about the WHO suggesting people defer travel to Toronto. I can understand why the Canadians are miffed. Even the CDC hasn't become quite so hysterical, advising only that travelers avoid obvious trouble spots like hospitals. So now we have the case where the CDC is trying to calm fears, rather than spread them. An all too rare instance where the U.S. government appears to be doing the right thing.
