The Germans have (probably since the pest times...) a colloquial expression for metaphysical certainty: Tod-sicher (sure as death).

Hi Jay,

Yes, there is something about black hose. During a recent late-season snowfall I found myself walking downtown behind a shapely blonde in a tight leather mini-skirt, black hose........ and heavy duty Vibram-soled hiking boots! Quite the opposite of your image, but equally mystical. <g>
