I am guessing you place value on "status" of the diplomatic person. I do not.

I could care less about the "Status" of the people we send. But these countries we deal with care a great deal, and judge their importance in the world by the level of Diplomat they get sent. So the lower, the better. Once you commit your top people, it limits your options. That is why you don't want to bring in your top people until a deal is done. Negotiate with your lower level guys. You can always repudiate what they do. You can't do that with the top guns.

If dimplomacy can achieve the desired result without conflict, I am all for it.
