Opinions are always subject to debate. It's pretty clear that the "protests" are marches that have been well-organized. The signs are professionally made in the most part. I quoted in one of my prior posts a news article claiming that Iran has sent perhaps 100,000 to organize. As to majority and numbers - I suspect, as I posted, that most Shia are humble people, trying to get their daily bread and survive. They have lived under a regime where breathing the next day's air was never a sure thing. Now with the beginning of some freedom, I believe that most are doing what they can for survival. There are always those who seek power and those who do usually know how to organize. IMO - it is this process that takes money and all religious leaders seem to know how to accumulate money that we are seeing. I also believe that as the economy starts getting directed and aid continues, that employment will become competitive to the Shia hand outs. I disagree with you with the extent of the natural outpouring that leads to beating one's self over the head with a sword, etc., and yelling out death to USA. There are a few very driven leaders, there are the lieutenants, captains, etc., all the way down to the privates who are being urged to do the dirty work. It is just as organized as a military operation. ME country = Mideast country. You must be aware that what Jordan, for example, says about Israel in the press is not the same thing they tell US, Russia or even Israel. It's the same for almost all of them. They may be opposing the war officially but they know they are better off and "dancing in the dark." I suggested that the real power in these countries is in the leadership with the people basically being manipulated. They are not bad, just hungry. Yes, Iraqis are also starving but IMO have chance for better life under democracy. As for other tyrants, one at a time, one at a time. We are already seeing progress in Middle East peace talks, PLO governance, Israeli attitude, Syrian comments, Iran to some extent, etc.
