Indian daily analyzes American game plan in South Asia

New Delhi, April 24, IRNA -- An Indian daily, while analyzing the US
game plan in South Asia, said on Thursday that New Delhi should be
aware that control over Asia is vital for American quest for world
domination.

Pioneer, a New Delhi-based English daily, said: "US efforts are
(aimed) to influence India's policies for achieving their economic
and military goals.

"The olive branch was proffered shortly after the United States
voiced disapproval of the application of the doctrine of preemptive
strikes against Pakistan. This is because America, contrary to
its claims of upholding civilized values, is fighting single-mindedly
to safeguard its own economic and military interests."

Commenting on US officials' rhetoric on friendship and cooperation
with India, the daily said, "India figures in American strategic
planning only to the extent that it can benefit the superpower in some
way.

"On account of cheap and abundant labor, India is proving
increasingly useful for transnational companies, which are cutting
costs by outsourcing services. Further, the country's potential as a
huge market for consumer goods offers cheer to free market economies.

"But, whatever its utility, India should not expect the US to
endorse and support military action against Pakistan.

"Given the US intentions and selfish considerations, India should
not lean on US and fight its own war against terrorism. Such a course
becomes all the more desirable in light of a classified report,
commissioned by the United States Department of Defense, which states
that the US wants access to Indian bases and military infrastructure.

"The American Air Force in particular wishes to set up air bases
in India and have access closer to areas of instability.

"The report seems to have an eye on cooperation by the Indian
Navy, especially since a dominant presence in the Indian Ocean is a
primary objective of the American strategic planning," the daily
said.

The daily, while analyzing the US objectives said, "the US' track
record suggests that it is unwilling to withdraw from any country
where it manages to get a foothold".

"After the successful operation in Iraq, the US is even more
firmly entrenched in the region via its military presence in
Afghanistan and Iraq," the daily said.

"The control over Asia, which has vast resources of oil, other
untapped wealth, a growing English-speaking middle class and cheap man
power, is crucial to the US's quest for world domination," it added.

The daily concluded by saying that the Indian leadership should
take warning from these conflicts to mold its relationship with the
US.

"India's democratic institutions and certified nuclear weapons
capability may finally prove to be the biggest deterrent to American
ambitions in the subcontinent," it said.
