A top Russian Foreign Ministry official was quoted as saying yesterday in Tokyo that a "catastrophic" development of events in the US-North Korean nuclear standoff was imminent and could occur within the next day.

He added that the standoff had "reached an extreme stage" but did not give a more detailed explanation about his warning.



The Russian statement was probably made in case the Bush administration wanted to keep this development secret too as they prepared to attack Syria.

U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell at the Asia Pacific Council on Thursday: "The sides will return to their capitals and assess what they heard."

I think Powell just wants to get back and pack up his desk before Gingrich moves into the office.
