The sponsors only care about one thing: Whether anyone will watch or not. When Asner first started mouthing off in favor of the Nicaraguan Stalinists, "Lou Grant" bombed in a week. People turned it off. The Smothers Brothers crossed one line too many in the 60's, and the network shut them down to save embarrassment. Blacklisting equals not spending one's time or attention on the worthless.
