the hard science camp...

I regard science as a tool. Nothing more then that.

Like all methods or systems is has some good points and some bad points. It is very important to be aware of the bad points as well as the good points.

On the negative side, it can be the longest route to finding something out. Sure Einstein said "Common sense is the collection of prejudices acquired by the age of eighteen.", but actually getting to age eighteen was quite an achievement for a long time in our history. Even today lots don't make it to twentyfive. Of course this "common sense" thing can be carried too far. Where does this "unified theory" come from? -ggg-

A simple example is agriculture. People found out a LONG time ago how to grow food and stuff. It was also a long time before science was able to lend a helping hand in any constructive way. Many scientists who were full of themselves and their theories screwed up big time not listening to people with quaint old knowledge of how to farm and stuff. The most recent example being what food you can safely feed cows in the UK.

Some scientists were on the side of the good people but many were not. Who or what inspired the "bad guys"? There was plenty of them including loads of scientists. I have my own explanation.

Another negative. Science does NOT use any kind of logic in the direction it goes. There is nothing reasonable about it on that matter. The direction of investigation depends on who is funding it. This is entirely political. How much money is spent on investigating sub atomic particles and what real science have we got from it?

So yes I use "hard science" as a tool to fix problems. Some new science is OK. I have very little regard for it any more then that. It's no more the solution to everything then Aspirin is a solution to all ailments, good discovery though that was. Very clever scientist who "discovered" that. It was around for a long time in natural form, and used by lots of folks of course. It's amazing how good you can be with "random sampling" when you feel the pain -lol-
