Warp, I'm not sure when bp was invented, but maybe Mike Burke of Chartcraft had something to do with it. His outfit now has a site called 'Investors Intelligence' and maybe you find the info there. Tom Dorsey credits Burke with being his Pnf mentor. This site is worth exploring. investorsintelligence.com

Yes, StockCharts says bpcompq is an estimate further back than 2000, I think. But it may not matter much when you're only looking for extreme buy and sell signals.
