can companies exceed lowball estimates, and go bankrupt ???
yes, you bet, count on it
such is the price that reality exacts upon deceivers

this is the shock I expect to hit American investors
with proforma earnings announcements still the mainstay
with pension funds still unaccounted for, nay nay stolen from in order to keep operations functioning and earnings reported over analyst estimates
with routine expenses set in the margin as "one-time charges"
with mgmt stock options and compensation packages still ridiculously high
with rolling over longterm debt extraordinarily difficult

we might see companies like Ford Motor beat expectations
and go bankrupt

it will hit like a splash of cold water in the face on a winter day

this is what I expect
and I doubt they will exceed my expectations
probably just meet

Just lowered stops. Given gyrations, locking profits seemed reasonable.
