I have a feeling the card processor would be more than happy to supply all the necessary equipment! :^)
The card processors make good money off each and every transaction. With continued automation, their profit margin should increase even more.

I understand your concerns about street transactions. But, with wireless and electronic technologies that we have today, those concerns can be overcome. No need for a generator. Just a battery powered device that can check a debit card's legitmacy. In any case, I'm sure the "powers that be" wouldn't mind making it harder for street vendors to do their business. They were trying to outlaw or limit street vendors in NYC throughout much of Guilani's term. As the stores didn't like the competition and sidewalk congestion.
