You are so right. Our students should be learning foreign languages in elementary school and middle school, and they should have 4 years of a language in high school, imo. Our high school doesn't even offer Latin, and I so wish my daughter could take that at school. I had 4 years of Latin and 2 of Spanish in high school, and then went on to take French in college. The two years of high school Spanish was not nearly enough to become anywhere near fluent. I am having to go back and learn it now. Now college immersion French was really something- but we had a language lab, and each semester was 5 units for good reason. Excellent education, and far superior to anything available in any high school in our area.
