Poll: Bush Tops All in Big Apple

In the heavily democratic state of New York, President Bush is riding high.

The man who lost the popular vote in the Empire state by a landslide to Al Gore in 2000 now trumps all Democratic comers, according to a new Quinnipiac poll.

Bush beat Hillary 47 percent to 44 percent, and slammed Dem pretenders ... ah, that is contenders - Lieberman, Kerry and Gephardt - by 50 percent to 38 percent each.

Quinnipiac polling director Maurice Carroll said that what should surprise people isn't that Bush is beating his opponents in the polls after the successful war with Saddam Hussein, but that Bush "does so well against Sen. Clinton when, in 2000, Bush was so far behind in New York he didn't even bother to campaign."

Bush's overall job approval rating was also high, 58 to 37 percent, which is slightly higher than was Bill Clinton's rating among New York voters, 52 to 36 percent.

Strangely, Quinnipiac omitted the Rev. Al Sharpton from its latest poll.
