William,

I read that article this AM in the WSJ. It sure fits the scenario.

Still, for every 5000 acquisition rumors, 1 comes true. But it's fun to speculate. Apples type of advertising would be perfect for Tivo, a bit irreverent, quality image, real people with real, honest benefits. Tivo's problem (IMHO) has always been communicating: not what it does, but how what it does makes you feel. Jobs just might be able to pull that off.

On the patent issue, the time-shifting patent would screw just about everybody (enforceable????). It would be interesting to start with MS and their new media OS. Gates doesn't like paying licensing fees; I imagine Tivo would spend a lot of time in a courtroom before they collected a penny. But if MS folded.... everyone would.
