OT: I-Ching, creationism, and why Penguins exist:

<I tend to believe abstract reasoning over other evidences>

You must still have assumptions, even with abstract reasoning. Have to start somewhere. Depending on your set of assumptions, you can reason yourself to any conclusion. This is most efficiently done, by beginning with the conclusion, and working backward to the needed assumptions. A useful debate method, especially if the assumptions are never mentioned.

<It is trumped only by personal and accurate observation>

What I have observed, is that the same event will be observed very differently, by people with different assumptions about how the world works. Or different places their ego lives. So accuracy cannot be assumed. Except for myself, of course. And perhaps a few others who tend to see the same things I do, thereby proving their accuracy.

<Why in the world would God go through the process of.....>

By definition, God does things you can't understand, for reasons you can't understand, because you aren't God. So, it is presumptuous of you to question why God made fossils or Koalas. Maybe to amuse himself, like when he gave us all those rules nobody can follow. Or maybe to test our faith, like when he told Abraham, "Go kill your son for me". Or maybe he was having a bet with the Devil, like when he tortured Job. 17 more years in purgatory for you, just for asking.
