Bush needed a pretext -- the decision to invade Iraq was a done-deal. Cheney told the truth initially, and the truth was this: We are the world's only superpower and we believe we have the right to do anything we want, invade any country at any time it suits us, then eliminate the existing government and set up that whatever we want to put in its place. He called it "regime change". It was later called other things such as preemptive war. This is now the policy of the United States and we call it the "Bush Doctrine". This is why other countries did not support us and this is why we could never get the UN Security Council on board -- despite all attempts to blame France, or Russia or the UN itself. Bush and the people around him believe that lying is perfectly acceptable if it is the President of the United States doing the lying. We are a superpower and can do whatever we want -- unilaterally. You are with us or against us. Its the brave new world of "might makes right". And in this brave new world there will be more wars. And in those wars there will be countries like North Korea, armed with nuclear weapons. Welcome to the future. God help us.

...he put Powell in a tight clamp -- in sending him to the UN to do his bidding for him -- and pressured him to lie to the whole world. Now, Newt and Rummy want Powell castrated for apparently doing what he was told by Sir Bush.

...can't quite figure it all out. Not sure that they'll ever let us. Accountability/transparency are not this administration's strong suit.

The economy still in the dumps -- how bout' you?
