Glenn,

How does Auletta characterize the Time-Warner takeover of Turner's holdings? I'm inclined to think that Turner was given "an offer he couldn't refuse". Enough compensation to make Croesus blush, in exchange for a commitment to put himself out to pasture. Turner was viewed by the suits at TW as too much of a loose cannon to allow to be anything other than a figurehead. Given the circumstances, it was a Faustian bargain, and in the end it looks like Turner would have been better off remaining an independent, were he able to recruit enough of a new generation of management. That was the rub. TW offered instant gratification. Turner took the bait. Now the entire media world has been switched.

Re: Blaming Turner proves you simply don't know the history.

Always nice to be treated in a condescending manner.

My apologies. Let me rephrase that comment.... Your post did not reflect your obvious erudition in the matter. I was confounded by your off-the-cuff shorthand and my lack of comprehension of your interior dialogue.

Is that better, sir? :)

Pay little mind. Rayduh is always in attack mode. Very little processing goes on there.
