Mark, marion,

Thanks for the links. To be honest, considering our foreign policy in the Middle East, the concept not everyone in the area shed tears over 9/11 would not surprise me.

I haven't watched TV for many years for a number of reasons:

1. Most commercials are insulting, and I don't consider being insulted in the privacy of my own home to be a part of what I consider a worthwhile pass time.

2. Commercials consume a typical 33% of all programming.

3. The other 67% of the programming is even worse than the commercials.

4. News programming is even worse that what is considered "entertainment" and is typically slanted to a degree as to be completely worthless as information. CNN and MSNBC are particularly disgusting with programming closer to pure propaganda than anything resembling news.

Every once in awhile I think back to the riots in LA some years ago where a number of people were killed.

Prior to the riots, a 6'6", 260 pound ex-convict, dusted to the eyeballs, led police on a high speed chase down the highway at speeds in excess of 80MPH. When he was finally stopped, he was literally throwing police officers over the tops of their cars. It eventually took 4 cops with night sticks to get him down and in handcuffs. Now, in most cases, a drunken driver getting a set of lumps in the process of resisting arrest is hardly news worthy or likely to gain much sympathy with the average person. The incident was caught on tape and the person's name was Rodney King. Instead of a "drunken driver", Rodney became a "black motorist". Instead of showing the film in context, it was edited to show only the portion immediately preceding the application of handcuffs. Upon viewing the tape in its entirety in court, the four officers were acquitted. The riots and ensuing deaths were caused in response to outrage by those whose only source of information was the "news".

I do miss out on a few things like chubby foreign chicks making turkey noises, but don't consider it a great sacrifice.

A mind is a terrible thing to waste.
