Not quite, TC. On the taskbar of WinXP, if say, 10 internet pages are open, they are grouped into one minimized section with a "10 Internet Explorer." If a pop-up has not been viewed yet, it will make the taskbar group section turn orange; which is the color used to alert you that a window needs attention.

For example, if I open a page that needs a password, and while it is loading I open several other web pages, the one needing my password entry is now inside the minimized group section. When that page that needs my password is ready, the taskbar group lets me know by turning orange. That is a useful feature.

Now, pop-ups that have not been viewed yet by me activate the orange color on the minimized group section. That is a deliberate hijacking of a nice feature. It's akin to getting junk mail with a law firm in the return address. You're being forced to open it.

Anyway, thanks for your interest in this admittedly trivial annoyance.

I downloaded Ad-Aware freeware to see if it will help.
