Air superiority is dead? I don't think the air or ground commanders would agree with that notion. No they wouldn't, RCR, you are right. They all want to be fighter jocks. That's what gets the girls. The problem is they are running out of enemy fighters to go against. The only worthy opponent left for our F-16 guys is the Israelis. They can clean the clock of anybody else in a couple of days. This means there is no mission out there for the F-22 raptor that is coming on line. And no need for the Joint Strike Fighter to replace the F-15/18 as a Fighter/bomber. We can go for at least 20 years with what we have and save Billions. But the Pentagon Princes don't want to do that. Neither do the Aircraft Makers.
