Gee, Tom. I am not going to make your "Idiots" list? I am crushed! :>) Frank's robotics around Rummy is well known and documented. That's fine. Rummy had enough disloyal senior Pentagon officers backstab him in the middle of the war. They are going to get pink slipped early in this coming year. Franks did not want to use SO anywhere near the extent that Rummy forced him too. Norman did not even want them in the theater in Gulf one, except as bodyguards. Franks opening plan for Afghanistan was 50,000 troops and a six month war. We ended up taking it with about 200 SO and Air, with regular troops for mop up. Generals are by nature conservative, and always want redundant forces. Better more than less. I doubt if we would have taken Baghdad any faster with the 4th ID in place in the north than we did with SO and Air. And look at all the Turks that didn't get to occupy Northern Iraq, and get paid off by us.
