On June 11, 2002 there were two important and pre-announced anti-Bush activities on the calendar. The first was the press conference of a group called Unanswered Questions.org at the National Press Club. C-SPAN agreed, in the week prior, to cover the press conference and present it nationwide on their network. unansweredquestions.org Over the weekend, someone got to C-SPAN, and at the last moment, and with no explanation, C-SPAN cancelled their coverage of this important event. The second event that was scheduled for that day was the Congressional hearing on the accusations of FBI agent Colleen Rowley, claiming that there was an attempt to suppress her investigation in Zacharias Moussaoui's activities, and related matters. This would have been front page news, and it would have made evening news on the TV networks except for one thing. John Ashcroft co-opted the media that day. From some obscure sound stage in Moscow, Russia, Ashcroft came onto the TV sets and front pages of American newspapers with a hysterical, shrill and fear-inducing announcement that the FBI had just apprehended a dangerous domestic terrorist who was plotting a nuclear attack in the heartland of America. It made for dramatic TV and it dominated the newspapers. Only days later were we told that Jose Padilla was a loser of a street punk who had a big mouth, got caught doing some outrageous bragging about nuclear devices which he knew absolutely nothing about in a technical sense, and that he'd been arrested a month earlier! Ashcroft held this arrest announcement back for just the right moment when he could do the greatest damage to his political enemies who were desperate to get the truth out to the American public. Ashcroft was lying about how dangerous Padilla was, he was lying about the timing, and he was fear mongering in the typical fashion of the totalitarian state. Aren't you concerned that Ashcroft is a dangerously anti-democratic and anti-American activist?extremeashcroft.com <COPY> So here's the deal: Too many sketchy maneuvers by that John Ashcroft Attorney General dude. The latest: : The man in charge of fighting terrorism has himself been linked to terrorist organizations. Newsweek columnist Michael Isikoff -- the reporter who broke the Monica Lewinsky scandal -- now reports that Ashcroft himself has supported a terror group with ties to Iraq.msnbc.com
